At the Business-to-Business Expo of the Milpitas Chamber of Commerce a couple of weeks ago, I was playfully reminded
by some of our friendly members Enrique Rizo, Della Martinez, Dr. Grace Lau-Basista
and Kellie Skar that friends look after each other, even if they are not looking after themselves
As
I recall growing up that when our family we went out, we seemed to nearly always go only to restaurants that were my father's
clients. As an explanation, my dad, small business owner that he was, often remarked, "Well, you scratch my back, I'll
scratch yours." It was something that was just understood.
Doing business with those who do business with
you is more than courtesy; less than an obligation. It simply makes sense.
Advocacy, a bedrock purpose
of any viable chamber of commerce, includes looking out for each other's interests.
There are numerous
examples:
Helping each other covering trade booths,
Sharing business leads in one of our leads groups,
Buying products and services from member to member,
Getting involved in public policy matters.
Whether
it's scratching, massaging, or giving each other a pat on the back it still comes down to being mutually supportive.
That's
why we are here.
Best regards,
Dennis King
